Batavia is a Dutch name for what is now Jaccarta. This is a spiced sugar cane based liquer with 2% red rice as well. Not meant to drink straight. Originally used to make punches. Straight it has a heavy wood note, like a very bitter-steeped tea. It is aged in teak, which accounts for that flavor and a bit of smokiness. It is a catalyst for cocoa flavor receptors in a way, basically it accentuates cocoa and other flavors of things on the palate. Interesting.
